Since 2008, bike phone mounts have been an essential part of my cycling routine in bike-obsessed Amsterdam. That was the year I got my first phone with built-in GPS and turn-by-turn navigation, making reliable mounting gear a must-have. Over the years, I’ve tested dozens of mounts—some lost, others broken or stolen—until I discovered the Loop Micro Mount, a game-changer I wish I’d known about sooner.
In recent weeks, I’ve been putting the ultra-compact Loop Micro Mount through its paces. Unboxing it took just three minutes, and screwing it onto my bike’s stem cap was straightforward. Once installed, it remains discreet, out of sight until I need it. When I do, I simply expand its jaws to securely hold my iPhone 15 Pro—whether I’m riding on smooth pavement or tackling rugged off-road trails. The mount kept my phone steady through bumpy single-track, root-riddled trails, and city streets alike, with or without a protective case.
I decided to push its limits by attaching it to my mountain bike. Although designed mainly for road use, the Loop Micro Mount proved resilient on rough terrain, maintaining a firm grip even over curbs and potholes. That said, I did accidentally kick my phone into the dirt once when I was knocked off balance. The rubber-lined jaws are excellent at gripping on asphalt, cobblestones, and brick, but they aren’t foolproof against impacts—something a rugged case can help mitigate.
The mount is intended for semi-permanent installation on your bike’s stem cap, and it comes with an extra-long bolt and Allen key for easy setup. I appreciate that you can mount your phone in either portrait or landscape orientation. However, inserting your phone requires two hands to pry open the jaws, which can be a bit fiddly. The design is sleek—when the mount is closed, the bolt is hidden, making it blend seamlessly into your bike’s lines. This minimalist look not only enhances aesthetics but also reduces the risk of theft, especially on city bikes or e-bikes fitted with standard stem caps. If you don’t have a stem cap, the Micro Mount can also attach to handlebars using a removable O-ring kit.
Loop claims the Micro Mount fits all major phones, including larger, ultra-heavy models. Its specifications support device widths up to 85mm and depths up to 14.5mm, making it suitable for the biggest iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S series phones with or without cases.
My only concern is the durability of the spring-loaded jaws over time. While the metal construction feels sturdy and premium, I live in Amsterdam where bikes are exposed to year-round weather—rain, sun, and ice—plus the rough treatment of parking racks. Loop states that the mount is built to withstand the elements, promising durability in any weather.
Overall, the Loop Micro Mount packs a surprising punch for its size. It’s quickly become my go-to bike mount for everyday riding, thanks to its inconspicuous design that keeps it hidden until needed. Its discreet profile not only looks great but also helps deter theft, making it a practical and stylish choice for urban cyclists and road riders alike.
