Netflix Ends Support for First-Gen Amazon Fire TV Devices Next Month: What You Need to Know

Netflix Announces Support Sunset for Early Amazon Fire TV Devices Next Month

If you’re a proud owner of one of the earliest Amazon Fire TV devices, it’s important to stay informed. Netflix has recently sent out emails to owners of these vintage devices, notifying them that support for Netflix will be ending next month. This change primarily affects users in the United States, with the cutoff date set for June 3rd.

Amazon has confirmed the news. A spokesperson, Jen Lurey Ridings, explained that Netflix will discontinue support for some first-generation Fire TV devices, which have been around for over a decade. Rest assured, Netflix remains accessible on all other Fire TV models.

So, which devices are affected? Support will be ending for the first-generation Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote. If you own one of these devices, you might be eligible for a discount when upgrading to a newer Fire TV Stick — just reach out to customer service for more details.

Not sure if your device is affected? You can easily check by going to the “About” section in Settings > My Fire TV on your device.

While Netflix hasn’t provided a specific reason for this support end, a recent update to their help page hints at possible technical limitations. Netflix states it may deprecate its app for devices that can no longer receive necessary updates or support new features. They’ve also added new error codes—R4, R12, and R25-1—that indicate a device is no longer supported.

Stay tuned for more updates, and if you’re using an older Fire TV device, it might be time to consider an upgrade to enjoy uninterrupted streaming.
