Nikon Announces Price Adjustments in Response to US-China Tariffs
After months of remaining silent on how President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Chinese-made goods might impact its business, Nikon has officially announced a “necessary price adjustment” for its products, set to take effect in the United States starting June 23rd, 2025. While Nikon hasn’t disclosed which specific imaging products will see price hikes or the extent of these increases, this move could be a good opportunity for photographers and hobbyists to pick up popular gear like the Nikon Z5 II before prices go up.
In a statement released last Friday, Nikon emphasized its commitment to delivering top-quality imaging products and value to its customers. The company explained that, due to recent tariffs, a price adjustment is necessary, and it will continue to monitor market conditions closely. Nikon also reassured customers that it will do its best to minimize the impact of these tariffs, adjusting prices as needed to reflect the evolving economic landscape.
This announcement follows Nikon’s recent financial results presentation, where the company revealed that tariffs could cut into its profits by approximately 10 billion yen (around $70 million) in the upcoming fiscal year.
Nikon isn’t alone in facing these challenges. Other camera manufacturers are also feeling the pressure from tariffs and rising costs. Australia-based Blackmagic Design recently increased prices for its digital cinema cameras and announced that tariffs have made plans to build a factory in Dallas, Texas, financially unfeasible.
Canon, during its Q1 financial report, shared that it’s planning to raise prices in the US and is currently estimating the timing and scale of these increases. The company noted that while the initial focus is on the US market, broader global impacts could follow if tariffs lead to a wider recession.
Meanwhile, Sony and Leica have also announced recent price hikes, and Fujifilm temporarily paused preorders for several models, including the X-M5 and X100VI, citing market uncertainties. Lens manufacturer Sigma has also signaled upcoming price adjustments, scheduled to start on June 2nd, 2025.
For photographers and enthusiasts, this wave of price changes underscores the importance of purchasing your favorite gear sooner rather than later. With several leading brands adjusting their prices in response to ongoing tariffs, now might be the perfect time to upgrade your camera or lens collection before costs rise further.
