Dyson has unveiled what it claims to be the “world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner,” and it’s truly a game-changer in the world of cordless cleaning. Introducing the Dyson PencilVac, a sleek, broom-like device that seamlessly blends power and portability. Its ultra-thin handle, just 38mm in diameter—comparable to Dyson’s iconic Supersonic hair dryer—houses the battery, motor, and electronics, making it incredibly lightweight at under four pounds.
Designed to replace Dyson’s previous slim model, the Omni-glide, the PencilVac takes innovation to the next level. It features four spinning brush bars, called Fluffycones, which are conical in shape. These brushes are specially designed to handle long hairs by guiding them down the narrow tips, preventing tangles and ensuring a smoother cleaning experience. Plus, they extend slightly at the sides for edge-to-edge cleaning, giving you a thorough clean along walls and furniture. Green LED lights illuminate dust and debris, making it easy to see when your floors are spotless—no lasers needed!
Power and efficiency are at the core of the PencilVac’s design. Its tiny yet mighty motor spins at 140,000 RPM, delivering a strong 55AW of suction in a compact form. The new two-stage dust filtration system helps prevent clogging and maintains peak performance as the dustbin fills. Speaking of the dustbin, although smaller than Dyson’s usual models, it’s engineered with a clever compression system that maximizes capacity by compacting dirt as it’s collected.
Convenience is front and center with features like a magnetic floor dock for easy charging and storage, plus a small LCD screen that displays the current cleaning mode and battery life. For the first time, Dyson’s vacuum connects to the MyDyson app, providing access to additional settings, filter alerts, and detailed maintenance tips to keep your vacuum performing at its best.
While the PencilVac excels in portability and sleek design, it’s important to note its limitations. It’s optimized for hard floors rather than carpets and doesn’t convert into a handheld vacuum, although you can attach accessories like a crevice tool for added versatility. Runtime is approximately 30 minutes on the lowest power setting, but the battery is removable, allowing you to swap in a fresh one for extended cleaning sessions.
Pricing details are yet to be announced, but Dyson plans to launch the PencilVac in Japan later this year. Unfortunately, it won’t be available in the United States until 2026. With its innovative design and cutting-edge features, the Dyson PencilVac is set to redefine portable cleaning for those who demand both style and substance.
